"Methods I Use to Obtain LOTS of New Subscribers"
By Gary Christensen
One of the best online marketing and advertising resources today is the
Electronic Magazine/Newsletter (e-zine). And if you're going to issue a Weekly or Monthly
Newsletter or Magazine, you need an audience or a list of subscribers, to whom you can
e-mail each edition. My e-mail Newsletter is free and I send it out twice a month. And
right from day one my questions was "Who do I send my Newsletter to?" I had a
list of 18 people who had expressed an interest in receiving my Newsletter, but, I
wondered, "How do I go about finding more Subscribers?"
I asked a lot of questions and I did a lot of reading. I experimented and I made some
mistakes! Following are some things I've done, over the past few months to find new
subscribers. As a result, my subscriber list now contains over 3,000 names! Here are my
suggestions:
1) Send out sample copies. If you want someone to consider subscribing to your Newsletter,
the best thing you can do is to send them a sample copy! I don't send out lengthy
salesletters; I don't write fancy flyers or print up multi-colored brochures,.. just give
away free samples! I let the actual product do the convincing for me! It does a better job
of selling than I ever could! I don't send out bulk e-mails, but, I do send
a sample copy to everyone who sends me an e-mail!
2) Place ads in other Newsletters. The best place to find subscribers is to go where
Subscribers are! To find Subscribers for YOUR Newsletter,.. Advertise in other
Newsletters! If readers have subscribed to OTHER Newsletters, maybe they will subscribe to
YOURS, too! I placed ads that simply gave the title and offered a free sample copy! Don't
try to sell copies, or ask for ad orders,.. just offer readers a free
sample copy! (List of 600+ other e-zines now posted at this website:
http://www.site-city.com/members/e-zine-master/
)
3) Place free ads at "Free Ad Sites." There are HUNDREDS of sites on the Net
where you can place ads, telling others about your Newsletter and offering readers a free
sample copy. Go to any search engine and search for "Free Classifieds" or just
"classifieds." Most service providers (AOL; Prodigy; Compuserve, etc.) will
allow members to place ads Free on their Bulletin Boards. Check around. Find out how.
(A list of "150+ Free Ad Sites" on the Web, free from:
Gach98@aol.com)
4) Free Listings in other Newsletters. Here are a few Newsletters which give their readers
a "List of other Newsletters." Get YOUR Newsletter on these lists, too! The
Bizweb Gazette is an e-zine that prints a list of Newsletters. E-mail Jim (at : webmaster@bizweb2000.com) and ask for a sample
copy. Every issue of "Opportunity Digest" contains a list of Newsletters. E-mail
Ed (SSee559@aol.com) and ask for a sample copy which
contains a "List of Newsletters!" A collection of some of the finest e-zines
available online today can also be found at :
http://www.intersuccess.com/ezines.htm
(Also, Get the "E-zine Publishers
News" Free, if you mailto:chrig98@aol.com)
5) Magazines & Newsletters on the Net. There are many Magazines Posted at various
sites on the Net. Visit: "HomeIncome Cities Mall" (www.homeincome.com/homebiz/homemoney-magazine/)
and
"The Writers & Publishers Connection" website at :
Find others at :
The WorldProfit Mall (http://www.worldprofit.com),
The Small Business Advisor
(at: http://www.isquare.com) and at a Mall owned by
Richard Soos (at:
http://www.soos.com).
6) A "Special Magazine Rack." Get listed by e-mailing a sample to: knud-sor@image.dk (Soren Isak Sorensen). I wrote him
and asked
"What's the procedure to get our Newsletter listed with you?
Let me know,..." He wrote: "If your newsletter has a web page, you just send me
the URL, I take a look at it and (hopefully :-) list it on our "Electronic
Newsstand."
(Or, please e-mail me a copy. Then, if I find it appropriate (which I'm sure
I will), you could get a line on Electronic Newsstand saying something like:
"HomeMoney Newsletter" </B> Mailing list. For
subscription contact
<A HREF="mailto:Gapach97@aol.com>Gary Christensen</A>
--
Soren Isak Sorensen (knud-sor@image.dk)
(WebMaster at Electronic Newsstand:
http://www.image.dk/~knud-sor/en/
(NOTE: When you send Soren a copy,.. send along a short letter, introduce yourself as the
editor or publisher; let him know you are sending him a copy of your Newsletter for the
purpose of being listed on his Electronic Newsstand! It's not enough to just e-mail him a
copy.)
7) Postings on Newsgroups. I have placed many messages, on several Newsgroups, and have
received lots of new subscribers from those postings. Keep your message short, sweet and
offer a free sample, like what I did: ("A super little Newsletter, called
"HomeMoney" is dedicated to and for "People who work from a home-based
business",.. good articles about home-based businesses; How to Advertise your home
biz; helpful tips about working the Internet, etc. It's FREE to subscribe
(mailto:Gapach97@aol.com), cancel anytime! Latest Feature article is titled "The
Vowels of Service" (about giving good customer service) e-mail Gary (at:
chrig98@aol.com) and say "Send HomeMoney #19!") THAT notice has brought in LOTS
of subscribers! (A list of Newsgroups I use regularly, free from: gach98@aol.com)
8) Post messages with ListServs. Similar to Newsgroups. Check around and find out about
them; how to subscribe to them; how to post message "to entire list." Let
everyone know about your Newsletter, and that you'll send out a free sample to anyone who
wants to see a copy. No obligation, etc. Try the NEW LIST - contact Mr. Gleason,
at: *** The NEW-LIST mailing list .. (

) ***
<mailto:owner-new-list@HYPATIA.CS.WISC.EDU>
9) Trade ads with other Newsletter Publishers. If you visit the E-zine Publishers site (www.site-city.com/members/e-zine-master/)
you will find over 600 Publications listed there, with the e-mails of each Publisher.
E-mail each, ask about THEIR Publication and ask how you can subscribe, or get a current
sample copy. Offer to place an ad for THEIR publication in YOUR publication Free, if they
will place YOUR ad in THEIR next issue! Some Publishers will trade, and some won't even
accept an ad from you if you are a Publisher! But, ask and see, after all, the worst you
will hear is "no thanks."
*** (Get a List of Pubs who Trade Ads" by mailing: gach98@aol.com)
10) Once you have your Newsletter ready, and have mailed a few issues, you should have it
"Listed" at other e-zine sites; registered with other Directories & added to
as many Resource Pages as you can. A list of "Newsletter Directories" is
available for the asking by sending an e-mail to: gary-chris@site-city.com
* * (Get our "List of Web Locations where you can Register you e-zine."
Just reply or send a request, with title, to: gach98@aol.com)
11) Post a "Sample Copy" of your e-zine at your site and list it with Search
Engines. If you have a site, Post your Publication at your site.If your Newsletter is only
available by e-mail, you can still post a sample copy at your site and give subscriber
info at your site, etc. List your site with all the Search Engines you can. A list of
search engines
follows in #12.)
12) Top Search Engines. Many will accept your submission, free of charge. You can list
your website, with your e-mail address. People search for certain words, so, YOU should
use the words that BEST describe your site! The search engine then gives them YOUR site
location! Get listed with as many as possible! Here's the best ones:
1. Alta Vista:
http://altavista.digital.com/
2. Excite Search:
http://www.excite.com/
3. HotBot: http://www.hotbot.com/
4. InfoSeek:

12. CashQuest

((Do searches for words like "e-zine" and "Newsletters".. should
help!))
13) Newsgroup Postings. I post info in several Newsgroups about a Free
Report on making MONEY from one's HOME, for example. I get lots of responses
from those postings! Here's some that I post to regularly: alt.ad; alt.america.online;
alt.bbs.ads; alt.bbs.internet; alt.biz.misc;alt.business; alt.business.home;
alt.business.misc; alt.internet.services; alt.business.multi-level; alt.commerce.misc-ads;
alt.e-zines; alt.internet.commerce; biz.comp.misc; biz.general; biz.marketplace; biz.misc;
biz.mlm; biz.newgroup; biz.next.newprod; market.internet.free; misc.business and
misc.entrepreneurs.
14) Brand New, Two new lists to help spread the word about your Newsletter or Magazine:
Trade ads with other Publishers,.. they tell their readers about YOURS and you tell your
readers about theirs! "List of Publishers willing to Trade ads" is yours for the
asking! PLUS - "20 Internet websites where you can List your e-zine Free."
Go to the sites listed, or e-mail them & tell them about your newsletter! You will get
subscribers from these free listing sources! E-mail me and ask for these two reports by
name, from: Gach98@aol.com
It's my hope that you will check out some of these sites; send out a few e-mails and do
some research. You may not like every e-zine you receive, but, maybe you can learn a
little from each one! It might do some good to subscribe to a few and see how other
Publishers issue their Newsletter; how often they issue; how short or how long
they make each issue, etc. Learn by what others are doing!
