What's in a Word--Picking Keywords for Your Pay Per Click

By Jerry Robertson

You have to respect the poets. They know how to pick the perfect
words every time. Now that you are faced with the challenge of
picking the perfect keywords for your pay per click, you will
have to do some of your own careful crafting. But don't worry.
You don't have to be a poet to choose the right keywords for your
pay per click. Here's a bit of advice to help you pick the
perfect keywords:

1. Choose very specific keywords--A keywords like business is too
general. These kinds of keywords are not highly targeted and end
up being extremely expensive. If you use the Overture Search
Inventory Suggestion, they will provide you with a list of
secondary words that may be less popular, but cheaper and more
effective.

2. Know how often your word is searched--Try the Overture Search
Inventory Suggestion. When you enter a keyword, it shows you the
number of times that keyword was searched the previous month. If
the keyword was searched under 100 times, then you should bid ten
cents or less. If the keyword was searched fewer than 50 times,
don't bother bidding on it at all.

3. Don't just bid on one keyword--Bid on a minimum of 10 to 40
words. This will help you lower your costs later on.

4. Choose words that are relevant--You're probably thinking, "Why
would I choose words that have nothing to do with my site?" Some
people try this method to bring anyone to their site. However,
this defeats the purpose of pay per clicks. You are supposed to
bring people who have an interest in what you offer. Otherwise,
the person with no interest whatsoever is going to end up costing
you money, when they click on your site and see that it has
nothing to do with what they want.
