What is an Affiliate?

Simply put, an affiliate sells products and services on their web site for a commission. Affiliates have a great idea for a web site and want to offer their visitors e-commerce capabilities. They choose merchant programs that compliment what they offer on their site. Anyone can become an affiliate! Through those relationships, affiliates can add value to their site and put dollars in their pocket.

Affiliates agree to place merchant promotions on their web site for the purpose of selling a merchant's goods and/or services. The affiliate controls the type of promotions placed, the location on the site and the length of time the promotion runs. In return, the affiliate can earn commissions on click-thrus, leads or purchases made through the site, depending on the arrangement with the merchant.

E-marketing is a new evolution in affiliate marketing. An e-marketer can use their e-mail capability to place a text link in the body of their message. This link serves the same purpose as placing a promotion on an affiliate web site, and the benefits are the same.
